Tourlies began in Austin, Texas, with a simple frustration: booking something to do in a city you don't know is a gamble. Endless listings, recycled photos, reviews you can't trust, and a lingering suspicion that the good stuff never shows up on page one.
So we did it the slow way. Our first operator was Long Horn Wine Tours, out in the Hill Country — a small crew who know which vineyards pour the good bottles on a Tuesday and which roads are worth the detour. We rode along before we listed them. That set the bar.
Every operator on Tourlies is vetted by a person before their first listing goes live: licences, insurance, safety record, and a real conversation about how they run a day. We say no often. A thin catalogue of things we'd send a friend to beats an infinite one nobody can navigate.
We don't sell placement. Nobody buys their way to the top of a page — ranking follows what travellers actually book and rate.
Reviews come only from people who booked and went. We moderate for abuse, spam and personal data — never for being unflattering. Operators get one public reply and no delete button. The full policy is in the help centre.
We're growing city by city rather than all at once, adding operators we'd vouch for by name. If you run something worth doing, we'd like to hear about it.
